Where it all began.... Well for us anyway....

The year was 2010..... We were in Edinburgh visiting some work colleagues for a couple of days.... Not all work I hasten to add... Take in the wonderful sites, bite to eat and a few beers... On the last day before departure we called into an Odd Bins close to our hotel....after a bit of an unsuccessful rumage we decided to leave.... Wait!!! By the the door just stacked there were a number of boxes.... Placed, rather balanced on top up was a rather attractive... Slightly different collection of bottles.. Label was somewhat basic but intriguing nonetheless.... Ohhh.... 7.4 IPA at just £2.80....worth a gamble so after no thought whatsoever we purchase 4..... Having been educated on the beer front in the mid eighties early nineties an IPA was still a fairly new concept, pale ales had reached the market but it was still dominated by traditional style ales... No bad thing because the quality was on the up and up so to speak..... Returned South and to be honest forgot all about them until 2/3 weeks later..... It was a Friday and after a not so productive or enjoyable day at work I decided to have a few of bottles.... The first couple.... OK ish.... 2 bitters.... One from Yorkshire the other from the Lakes.... Time to up the game..... Let's try the one with the home made label...... I'm not sure what I was expecting..... And thinking back that's not changed really....nice gentle hiss as the cap was lossened.... Poured a nice light golden colour with a small but consistent head.....the aroma was like nothing I'd ever come across..... I could of quite happily lingued there for very long time...... First taste....... What!!!!! Sorry!!!!! Second taste...... Oh my god..... For the very first time I was left totally gobsmacked..... Goosebumps.... Those little hairs on your arms and neck working overtime...... Is this what beer is like?????? Or could be like......that day... that beer..... That brewery is what started our love affair and passion for beer....... I couldn't contain myself and had to share this beer with Linda..... Not too much obviously..... And as many people who we thought would get where we were coming from.......the bottle stalls at markets and fairs.. The online shop followed and eventually in 2013 Barley Hops opened here in Congleton.....Our early customers will remember the fabulous Tempest..... The stock never hung around for too long...... Happy to say they are still producing fabulous beers.... Of which we now have a nice selection...... Brave New World.... Toned down slightly at 7% is due tomorrow....always grateful for that stroke of luck in Odd Bins.... Apologies for the waffle...... A few have heard it before but thought it was worth sharing again...... Enjoy the Brave New World.....
